- Hanna VYSHNIAKOVA · PhD candidateSearch for Agents with Antistaphylococcal Activity against Staphylococcus aureus Strains Exhibiting Different Antibiotic-Resistance Phenotypes
This doctoral research focuses on identifying novel agents with antistaphylococcal activity against clinical Staphylococcus aureus strains exhibiting different antibiotic-resistance phenotypes. The study evaluates low-molecular-weight sortase A inhibitors, heterometallic complexes, plant extracts, bacteriophages and probiotic preparations.
The integrated approach combines microbiological and biochemical methods, molecular docking, and assessment of the ability of the investigated agents to inhibit bacterial growth and biofilm formation. The findings provide a scientific basis for developing alternative and adjunctive strategies to overcome multidrug resistance in S. aureus. Scientific supervisor — Professor Serhiy Yarmoluk.
- Mykhailo MAHDYSIUK · PhD candidateDevelopment of Low-Molecular-Weight Inhibitors of Protein Kinase CK2
Mykhailo Mahdysiuk’s doctoral research focuses on identifying novel compounds capable of selectively inhibiting CK2, a promising therapeutic target in cancer, viral infections and other diseases. The study investigates aurone derivatives, 2,4-dianilinopyrimidines and other structural classes.
The research combines experimental assessment of inhibitory activity by capillary electrophoresis with molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. The findings advance understanding of structure–activity relationships and provide a basis for the further optimization of potential therapeutic agents. Scientific supervisor — Professor Serhiy Yarmoluk.
- Oleksandr KAZAKOV-KRAVCHENKO · PhD candidateFluorescent Cyanine Dyes for Nucleic Acid Detection by PCR
Oleksandr Kazakov-Kravchenko’s doctoral research investigates relationships between the chemical structures of cyanine dyes, their spectral and luminescent properties, and their interactions with nucleic acids and proteins. Eighty compounds were examined using absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, real-time PCR, DNA melting-curve analysis and gel electrophoresis.
Among the compounds studied, the monomethine cyanine dye fb128 exhibited high sensitivity for fluorescent DNA detection, only a minor effect on amplicon melting temperature, and virtually no inhibition of amplification within its optimal concentration range. Its analytical performance is comparable to that of the commercial dyes SYBR Green and EvaGreen, supporting its potential use as a fluorescent reporter for quantitative real-time PCR.
