About

Interdisciplinary Biomedical Chemistry

We develop bioactive small molecules and investigate biologically active constituents of medicinal plants. Our work combines computer-aided design, chemical synthesis and advanced analytical methods for pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications.

Scientific illustration for Department of Biomedical Chemistry

The Department of Biomedical Chemistry at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, NAS of Ukraine, works at the interface of medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, molecular modelling, biochemistry and biophysics. We combine computer-aided design, organic synthesis, chemical analysis and experimental methods within a single research workflow.

Research Focus

Research Infrastructure

Our research infrastructure includes organic synthesis, spectroscopic and luminescence methods, LC–MS and GC–MS, with access to NMR analysis and high-performance computing resources.

The department works with a collection of approximately 200,000 small organic molecules and a specialized collection of around 2,000 fluorescent dyes spanning diverse chemical classes.

The Department in Numbers

IMBG NAS of Ukraine

The department is part of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine, a research institution conducting fundamental and applied studies in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, proteomics, biotechnology and bioinformatics.
