The Department of Biomedical Chemistry at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, NAS of Ukraine, works at the interface of medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, molecular modelling, biochemistry and biophysics. We combine computer-aided design, organic synthesis, chemical analysis and experimental methods within a single research workflow.
Research Focus
Kinase inhibitor discovery
We develop small-molecule protein kinase inhibitors by integrating molecular modelling, organic synthesis, structure–activity relationship analysis and biochemical testing.
Fluorescent detection of biomolecules
We develop fluorescent dyes and probes for detecting proteins, nucleic acids and biomolecular aggregates, investigate their interactions with biological targets and create reagents for fluorescent labelling.
Ethnopharmacology of medicinal plants
We investigate the chemical composition of medicinal plant materials and extracts, using LC–MS, GC–MS, spectroscopic methods and artificial intelligence to analyse ethnopharmacological data and generate new research hypotheses.
Research Infrastructure
Our research infrastructure includes organic synthesis, spectroscopic and luminescence methods, LC–MS and GC–MS, with access to NMR analysis and high-performance computing resources.
The department works with a collection of approximately 200,000 small organic molecules and a specialized collection of around 2,000 fluorescent dyes spanning diverse chemical classes.
