Appeal to Publishers concerning affiliation “Crimea, Russia”

Scientific Researchers of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, the NAS of Ukraine, support the appeal to publishers which publish articles of scientists with affiliation "Crimea, Russia" with request to replace affiliation to "Crimea, Ukraine". Apparantly, these articles must have been prepared using, in fact, stolen property of Ukraine disposed in Crimea, which was created and supported by Ukrainian citizens and Government for many years.

The project of the letter, which will be adapted for each publisher (Springer, ScienceDirect/Elsevier B.V., EDP Sciences, Taylor&Francis Group, Oxford University Press, IOPscience, Pensoft, The European Geosciences Union), is below. If you share this opinion, you can send to e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  the following information:

1. Name, family name, your scientific degree;

2. Affiliation;

3. Link to your public profile (Web-page, Researchgate, LinkedIn, etc.);

4. Your working e-mail address.

At the beginning of New Year it will be made sending of letters to Publishers with list of persons, who supported this appeal.

The Project of the Letter:

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are writing to you concerning some papers (http://dx.doi.org/..., ) which were recently published in journals belonging to *Name of publisher*. We were surprised to discover that the affiliation country for the authors originating from Crimea, Ukraine, in these papers was indicated as Russia. We think it is a mistake or must be a violation of the Resolution adopted by the General Assembly of United Nations on 27 March 2014 (please see http://www.org/en/ga/serch/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/RES/68/262).

The internationally recognized Ukrainian territory of Crimea was brutally occupied and annexed by the Russian Federation in March 2014. If the affiliation country for these papers is kept as Russia, they must have been prepared using, in fact, stolen property of Ukraine disposed in Crimea, which was created and supported by Ukrainian citizens and Government for many years. Moreover, publishing papers originating from Crimea with Russia indicated as an affiliation country legitimizes the annexation and violates the internationally recognized law which was mentioned in the Resolution adopted by the General Assembly of United Nations on 27 March 2014 (please see link above).

We respectfully request the *name of publisher* to issue a corrigendum in corresponding journals for papers from Crimea already published in years 2014-2015, which would change the affiliation country from Russia to Ukraine. We also request that future publications from Crimea be affiliated with Ukraine until the situation with Crimea is resolved and recognized by the international community and the United Nations.

We count on your understanding in solving this sensitive issue. Please let us know if you concur with our request, so we would inform the scientific community worlwide.
