Antibiotic Design

Antibiotics belong to the most successful chemotherapeutic agents in the history of medicine. However, today the main problem for the treatment of infectious diseases is the fast development of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic microorganisms. It should be noted that resistance to antibiotics is a natural phenomenon since the adaptation of microorganisms to natural antibiotics is an evolutionary reaction. A significant increase of antibiotics resistance in microorganisms became a global health threat after intensive use of antibiotics in agriculture, veterinary and clinical medicine. Nowadays, antibiotic resistance in microorganisms is an international priority for modern medicine. Therefore, the development of antibiotics with novel mechanisms of action is an important challenge for medicinal chemistry. 

The main focuses of our research are the search of antibiotics toward pathogenic bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and pathogenic fungi Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans
